Avona Escapes Biker Campsite
Sitting just outside the Peak District National park, Avona Escapes Biker Campsite is just close enough to get included in this selection of campgrounds.
Biker specific campsites are a rarity, so I was surprised to find I hadn't come across this one before in my searches. At first glance, the campsite is simply a large open field that sits prominently on top of a hill, overlooking the Cheshire plains. On my visit it was wonderfully quiet and erecting my tent on the edge of the campsite meant I had some great views to sit and stare at during my stay.
Although just an open field style campsite, it would be wrong to assume no thought has gone into the site. It has all the basic facilities you need: washing up area, showers, toilets, and it also has a 10ft fire pit where larger groups can gather round for evening chats. But thoughtfully this is situated to one side of the field, so if a more solitary camp is your thing, you can be a fair distance away from the noise. Speaking of noise, the campsite is also an adult only-child free zone, something that I'm always thankful for. While children are out, the campsite has it's own resident alpacas, peacocks, ducks and cats that are free to roam the site; which makes for an interesting moment when you get an impromptu animal visitor popping by.
Overall it's a great campsite, especially if you're looking for a base from which you can explore The Peak District National Park.
Biker's Note: If you're not confident in riding over a lumpy grass field, there is ample parking in front of the field gates, where your bike will be watched over by CCTV.
