Cliff Beach - Isle of Lewis

Wild moto-camping doesn't get more 'wild' than this.

If you're after an authentic 'wild' camping experience while exploring the Isle of Lewis, Cliff Beach is the only location to stop at. Nestled in a secluded cove on the west side of the island, there's really nothing there apart from a small sliver of grass to park yourself on and set up camp. There are no facilities of any kind at the site, and you're also a long way from the nearest shop/toilet/petrol station, so you need to make sure you come prepared if you're planning on staying here.

However, the roads to get there are the reason you came to the Outer Hebrides in the first place; and the views from your campsite are second to none. As you watch the sun dip behind the surrounding mountains, try to peel your eyes away from the crashing waves and you might be treated to one of the best light shows Mother Nature has to offer.

It's not possible to book your stay at Cliff Beach, you must simply turn up and hope for space. Thankfully it's a long way from anywhere so chances are good that you'll find a space. There's a small honesty box at the end of the track leading to the main section of camping ground. Prices are written on a board next to it and may change from time to time, but I'd recommend bringing at least £10 in cash if you wish to contribute toward your night's stay.

Biker's Note: At Cliff Beach you're right on the sea front taking the full brunt of the North Sea winds, so make sure you park your bike leaning into the direction of the beach. You don't want to wake up to find your pride and joy blown over during the night.
