Shell Island Campsite

With its miles of pristine coast, sand dunes and beach side camping pitches, Shell Island is a magnet for all kinds of campers. Coupled with great on-site facilities such as a mini-supermarket, shops, bar and restaurant, it's little wonder that the campsite can often be a victim of its own success.

I've been visiting Shell Island for years and the best piece of advice I can offer is to never visit on a weekend or during any kind of school holiday period. The site becomes very overcrowded with family campers, which more often than not robs the site of the peaceful experience you were hoping for.

But if you manage to plan your visit on a weekday, away from holiday time, you'll be rewarded with incredible sunsets and magnificent sea views. Plus for those new to moto-camping, the on-site shops offer a helping hand should you forget to bring anything on your trip.

Bikers Note: The road leading to Shell Island is a tarmac road, but it's a tidal route so you'll need to check on their website to see the times when the road is passable and when it's flooded over.
